| Glenda Macomber |
Glenda Marie Douthit Macomber was born in Redding to Glynn and Nelda Douthit December 19, 1940. She comes from a godly legacy of men and women who loved the Lord. Her mother’s grandfather was a German Baptist preacher, and her father’s grandfather was also a Baptist preacher. She graduated from Shasta Union High School and was the first chair trumpet player. She would go on to receive her Bachelors Degree with honors at Westmont College, and her Masters of Theology with honors at Denver Baptist Bible College. She taught womens’ studies classes at Denver Baptist Bible College from 1981-1983. She married Melvin V. Macomber on November 25, 1961, at Grace Baptist Church of Redding, California. Most would know her because of her love for music and the numerous arrangements that she wrote, but her children knew her as a mother who unwaveringly held to the principles of Scripture, and taught us from a young child to know and love the Word of God beyond anything that the world has to offer. One of my first memories of her was when she taught me the song I know whom my redeemer liveth, and taught me about Timothy whose mother taught him in the things of God. Among her favorite verses were Hebrews 12:1-2: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. She went on to glory Monday June 21, 2010 quickly, and is now visiting with those saints that have gone before. She is preceded by her youngest daughter Julia who went to be with the Lord at age 14, and is survived by her husband Dr. Melvin Macomber; her sister, Peggy Douthit; daughters: Cheryl Macomber of Granite Bay, California; Fay Jacobsohn of Hazen, North Dakota, her husband Charles and their six children; Eileen Martinez of San Diego, California, her husband, Cesar, and one child; Mishal Macomber of Dunn, North Carolina; sons, Rev. Clinton Macomber of Redding, Californa, his wife Cindy and their seven children and 3 grand children; Daniel Macomber of Dunn, North Carolina; |
